The complete guide
A guide to school test series for CBSE and ICSE, Class 6 to 11
Most families start thinking about test series in Class 10, when the board exam is close. By then the habits are already set. How a student reads a question, how much they write, whether they show working in Maths or label a diagram in Science: all of this is learnt in the middle years, and it is much easier to shape in Class 7 than to fix in Class 10. That is why GradeHunt runs written test series for CBSE and ICSE students from Class 6 to Class 11.
Why written tests matter before the board years
School exams in Classes 6 to 9 and Class 11 are set and marked by the school, so it is tempting to treat them lightly. The trouble is that students rarely get detailed feedback on these papers. A mark out of 80 tells a child very little about what went wrong in a particular answer.
A checked test copy does. When every answer carries marks and a remark, a student can see that a Science answer lost a mark for a missing reason, or that a Maths answer had the right method and a slip in the last line. Over a term, those remarks add up to a clear list of habits to change.
How the school test series works
- Choose the board, the class and only the subjects you need.
- Download a test, and write it at home on paper, in the time given on the question paper.
- Upload a clear scan of the answer sheet.
- Get it back checked step-wise by subject experts within 48 hours, with marks and remarks on every answer.
- Ask a doubt about any remark; doubts are answered by faculty.
Each subject has one test for every chapter and two full-syllabus mock tests, and all papers follow the latest syllabus. Tests start from 20 October 2026, and the plans run until 1 April 2027, labelled for the 2027 exams.
CBSE or ICSE: what changes between the two
The checking method is the same for both boards, but what a student needs from a test series is not.
CBSE, Class 6 to 9 and Class 11
CBSE schools use NCERT books, and the books for the middle classes have changed in recent years. Classes 6, 7 and 8 now study from the newer NCERT titles such as Ganita Prakash for Maths and Curiosity for Science. For Class 9, news reports of CBSE's revised curriculum for 2026-27 describe two levels in Maths and Science, a standard paper for everyone and an optional advanced paper. Class 11 is subject-wise, so a student picks only the subjects they study. See the CBSE school test series for each class.
ICSE, Class 6 to 9, and ISC Class 11
ICSE students meet more separate subjects earlier: Physics, Chemistry and Biology are taught apart, and English is split into English Language and English Literature. CISCE sets the ICSE syllabus for Classes 9 and 10 together and the ISC syllabus for Classes 11 and 12 together, so Class 9 and Class 11 are the first halves of two-year courses rather than standalone years. See the ICSE and ISC school test series for each class.
Which plan fits your child?
There are three plans, and the plan cards on this page show what each costs.
- Test Series: every chapter test and both full mocks for each subject you choose. Right for students who keep their own routine and mainly need practice and feedback.
- Mentorship Program: everything in the Test Series, plus daily targets and a study schedule. Useful when the real problem is planning, or when Class 11 students are also preparing for an entrance exam.
- Full Syllabus Mock Tests: the two full mocks per subject on their own, for students who want exam-style practice close to the annual exams.
A simple plan from October to March
With tests starting on 20 October 2026, most students can follow a rhythm like this:
- October to December: write the chapter test for each chapter the school has finished, ideally within a week of finishing it.
- January: go back over the checked copies, redo the answers that lost the most marks, and write any chapter tests still pending.
- February and March: write the two full-syllabus mocks per subject in the weeks before the school's annual exams.
The point is not to write as many tests as possible. One test written properly and read back carefully does more than three rushed ones.
How to read a checked copy
Parents often look only at the total. The remarks matter more. Look for patterns across two or three tests: the same missing unit in Physics, the same unlabelled diagram in Biology or Geography, the same Literature answer that retells the story instead of answering the question. A pattern that shows up in three tests is the one to work on next.
