Maharashtra SSC Maths 2 weightage for 2027 is spread across seven Geometry chapters in a 40-mark paper. Circle is the heaviest at about 12 marks with options, Similarity and Mensuration are about 10 each, and Pythagoras Theorem, Geometric Constructions, Co-ordinate Geometry and Trigonometry are about 7 each. As with Algebra, the board publishes the format and not a chapter table, so the chapter figures are estimates and I have marked them so. The March 2026 paper, held on 9 March, fits them.
Geometry has no chapter you can skip: the lightest is still a 7-mark chapter, and the heaviest is where the theorem proofs live.
TL;DR
- Geometry is 40 marks in two hours. Mathematics in total is 100, with Algebra 40 and internal assessment 20.
- Estimate, marks with options: Circle 12, Similarity 10, Mensuration 10, Pythagoras Theorem 7, Geometric Constructions 7, Co-ordinate Geometry 7, Trigonometry 7.
- Same eight-part pattern as Algebra: 40 marks answered, 60 printed.
- Teachers quoted after the 9 March 2026 paper called it moderate and slightly lengthy, with Q4 and Q5 the hard part.
How many marks does each Geometry chapter carry?
- Similarity: 10 marks.
- Pythagoras Theorem: 7 marks.
- Circle: 12 marks.
- Geometric Constructions: 7 marks.
- Co-ordinate Geometry: 7 marks.
- Trigonometry: 7 marks.
- Mensuration: 10 marks.
These are marks with options, adding to 60; the paper is scored out of 40. Some portals print a six-chapter version of this table without Trigonometry, which is incomplete: trigonometric identities and heights-and-distances problems appear every year. The board's site, mahahsscboard.in, publishes the syllabus and the format, not the chapter marks, so expect a chapter to move by two or three marks in a given year.
One chapter at 12, two at 10 and four at 7, all estimates, and the spread is flat enough that nothing can be dropped.
What is the Geometry paper pattern?
The same as Algebra: five questions, eight parts, two hours.
- Q1 (A): four MCQs, 1 mark each, 4 marks. Only the first attempt at an MCQ is evaluated.
- Q1 (B): four one-mark sub-questions, 4 marks.
- Q2 (A): complete any two of three activities, 2 marks each, 4 marks.
- Q2 (B): solve any four of five sub-questions, 2 marks each, 8 marks.
- Q3 (A): complete any one of two activities, 3 marks.
- Q3 (B): solve any two of four sub-questions, 3 marks each, 6 marks.
- Q4: solve any two of three sub-questions, 4 marks each, 8 marks.
- Q5: solve any one of two sub-questions, 3 marks.
The 2026 paper, on 9 March from 11 AM to 1 PM, kept this shape. Teachers quoted in Careers360's live report called it moderate and slightly lengthy, and said Q4 and Q5 took the time. Those are the four-mark and three-mark problems with figures. Internal assessment adds 20 marks to the two written papers, as the board's pattern on Careers360 shows.
Eight parts and 40 marks, with the long figure-based problems in Q4 and Q5 deciding the grade.
Where do the theorems and constructions come in the paper?
Theorems
The textbook theorems you can be asked to prove include the basic proportionality theorem, the theorem on areas of similar triangles, the Pythagoras theorem, the tangent segment theorem and the inscribed angle theorem. A full proof usually appears as a Q3 (B) or Q4 option for 3 or 4 marks, and Q3 (A) often gives a proof as an activity with blanks.
Constructions
Dividing a segment in a given ratio, constructing a triangle similar to a given triangle in a given ratio of sides, and constructing tangents to a circle from a point outside it or at a point on it. A short construction comes in Q2 (B) for 2 marks and a longer one in Q3 (B) or Q4 for 3 or 4 marks.
The rest
Co-ordinate Geometry is the distance, section and midpoint formulas and the slope of a line. Trigonometry is the identities and heights-and-distances problems with 30, 45 and 60 degree angles. Mensuration is surface area and volume of the cylinder, cone, sphere and frustum, with arc length and sector area. These fill Q1 and Q2 and take one of the Q4 options most years.
Proofs sit in Q3 and Q4, constructions in Q2 to Q4, and the formula chapters fill the one-mark and two-mark slots.
Where do students lose Geometry marks?
- Proofs without the frame. A theorem proof needs the figure, Given, To prove and Construction, if any, before the Proof. Copies that jump straight to the proof lose the frame marks and often lose the thread.
- Steps without reasons. Every step in a proof needs the theorem or property in brackets. An equality of two angles with no reason earns nothing on its own.
- Constructions with the arcs erased and no rough figure. The arcs are the evidence of the method, and the method carries the marks.
- Mensuration answers without units, or with pi taken as 3.14 when the question says 22/7.
- Heights and distances with the figure drawn but the angle of elevation marked at the wrong vertex.
These are habits, and a checked paper breaks them faster than a new textbook does. The way method marks are split in board papers is explained in our post on step marking in board exams.
The losses are in the frame of a proof, the arcs of a construction and the units of an answer, not in the geometry itself.
How to revise Geometry before February
- Finish all seven chapters once by 30 November, theorems first. The chapter list is in our Maharashtra SSC mathematics syllabus post.
- Write every textbook theorem proof from memory once a week, with the figure and the frame, until none of them needs the book.
- Solve the last five Geometry board papers from our mathematics past papers post and note which chapter each Q4 and Q5 problem came from.
- In December, write two full Geometry papers by hand in the 11 AM to 1 PM slot and get them checked. Do the same for Algebra using the chapter order in our Maharashtra SSC Maths 1 weightage post.
- Use the January preliminary exam as the rehearsal, and from 1 February revise from corrected papers alone. The written exams start on 15 February 2027.
Gradehunt's Maharashtra Board SSC Class 10 test series gives you full Geometry papers in the board's eight-part format. Frequently Asked Questions
Q1.Which chapter has the highest weightage in SSC Geometry?
Circle, at about 12 marks with options, then Similarity and Mensuration at about 10 each. Circle supplies the tangent segment and inscribed angle theorems, the cyclic quadrilateral properties and a construction, so it can appear in four different question slots in one paper.
Q2.How many marks is the Maharashtra SSC Geometry paper?
40 marks in two hours. Mathematics is 100 in all: Algebra 40, Geometry 40 and internal assessment 20. In 2026 the Geometry paper was held on 9 March from 11 AM to 1 PM.
Q3.Which theorems are important for SSC Geometry 2027?
The ones the textbook proves: the basic proportionality theorem, areas of similar triangles, the Pythagoras theorem, the tangent segment theorem and the inscribed angle theorem. One of them usually comes as a 3 or 4 mark proof in Q3 (B) or Q4, and another as an activity with blanks in Q3 (A).
Q4.Is the Geometry chapter-wise weightage official?
No. MSBSHSE publishes the syllabus and the question paper format, not a chapter-wise marks table. The figures here are an estimate from the format and recent papers, and they have stayed close to the same for several years. Use them to order revision, not to skip a chapter.
Q5.How are constructions marked in SSC Geometry?
On the method as much as the result: the rough figure, the arcs, and the ratio or perpendicular shown, then the final figure with the measurements written. A neat final figure with the arcs erased loses the method marks even when the measurements are right.
Q6.Is Trigonometry part of Maths 2 in Maharashtra SSC?
Yes. Trigonometry is chapter 6 of Mathematics Part 2, with identities and heights-and-distances problems, at about 7 marks with options. Tables that leave it out are incomplete. Careers360 listed trigonometry among the topics of the 9 March 2026 paper.
