How the CA Inter result works
You clear a group with at least 40 marks in each of its three papers and at least 150 out of 300 in the group. If you write both groups at the same exam, there is a second route: 40 or more in all six papers and at least 300 out of 600 across both groups clears both, even when one group on its own is under 150.
If you fail a group after writing all three of its papers, any paper with 60 or more is exempt for the next three exams (the exam is held in January, May and September). You then write only the other papers of that group: 40 or more in each, and the group total, counting the exempt paper's marks, must reach 150. You get no new exemption in that group until this one is used up. If you still have not cleared the group after those three exams, you can choose to make the exemption permanent; you then need 50 or more in each remaining paper of that group.
Clearing both groups at one sitting with 70% of the total (420 out of 600) is a pass with distinction.
Example: Group I 45, 45 and 45; Group II 80, 80 and 80. Group I alone is 135, under 150, but every paper is 40 or more and the six papers total 375, so both groups are cleared. With Group I at 65, 38 and 52 instead, Group I is not cleared (38 is under 40), Paper 1 is exempt with 65, and next time Papers 2 and 3 need 40 or more each and 85 together (150 minus 65).
