How the CA Foundation result works
You clear CA Foundation with at least 40 marks in each of the four papers and at least 200 out of 400 in total, at one sitting. Foundation has no exemption: a paper with 60 or more does not carry over, so if you do not clear, you write all four papers again.
Papers 3 (Quantitative Aptitude) and 4 (Business Economics) are objective, with a quarter mark taken away for each wrong answer. Their marks are rounded up to the next whole mark for any fraction; in Papers 1 and 2 half a mark or more is rounded up. A total of 70% (280 out of 400) is a pass with distinction.
Example: 52 in Accounting, 45 in Business Laws, 58 in Quantitative Aptitude and 41 in Business Economics. Every paper is 40 or more, but the total is 196, 4 short of 200, so it is not a pass. In Paper 3, 62 marks from correct answers with 17 wrong answers gives 62 minus 4.25, rounded up to 58.
