ISC Class 12 Economics weightage for 2027 is set in CISCE's own syllabus: an 80-mark, three-hour theory paper split evenly between microeconomics (40) and macroeconomics (40), plus 20 marks of project work. National income, at 12 marks, is the biggest single macro unit, and demand with elasticity is the biggest micro block at 16. The marks below come from the CISCE Economics syllabus for 2027 and the paper structure from the ISC specimen paper 2027.
Demand, elasticity and supply together are 16 marks, and national income is 12. Those two blocks are more than a third of the theory paper.
TL;DR
- Paper I theory: 80 marks, 3 hours plus 15 minutes reading. Paper II project: 20 marks.
- Micro 40: demand, elasticity and supply 16; market mechanism, production, and cost and revenue 12; market forms and equilibrium of a firm 12.
- Macro 40: income and employment 8, money and banking 8, balance of payments 6, public finance 6, national income 12.
- Specimen 2027: Section A 16 one-mark questions, Section B eight 4-mark questions, Section C four 8-mark questions.
- Numericals come from national income, the multiplier and elasticity by the percentage method.
How are the 100 marks in ISC Economics split?
Two papers. Paper I is the theory exam, 80 marks in three hours, with 15 minutes of reading time. Paper II is project work for 20 marks, assessed by your teacher and a visiting examiner. CISCE's syllabus says examples should refer to the Indian economy wherever relevant, and the specimen paper follows that: RBI rate decisions, the Union Budget and GST changes all appear as case lines.
It is 80 marks of theory plus 20 of project, with the theory split equally between micro and macro.
What is the unit-wise weightage of ISC Class 12 Economics?
Microeconomic theory, 40 marks
- Demand, elasticity of demand and supply: 16 marks.
- Market mechanism, concepts of production, and cost and revenue: 12 marks.
- Main market forms and equilibrium of a firm: 12 marks.
Macroeconomics, 40 marks
- Theory of income and employment: 8 marks.
- Money and banking: 8 marks.
- Balance of payments and exchange rate: 6 marks.
- Public finance: 6 marks.
- National income: 12 marks.
The specimen paper's note says the weightage in the syllabus "will be strictly adhered to". So these are firm targets, not rough guides.
Demand to supply carries 16, national income 12, and the two smallest units are balance of payments and public finance at 6 each.
What does the ISC Economics specimen paper 2027 look like?
- Section A, 16 marks: sixteen one-mark subparts, a mix of MCQs, assertion-reason, data reading and very short answers.
- Section B, 32 marks: eight short-answer questions of 4 marks, with internal choice in three.
- Section C, 32 marks: four long-answer questions of 8 marks, with internal choice in two.
There are thirteen questions in all and every one is compulsory. Each subpart carries a tag such as Recall, Understand, Apply, Analyse, Evaluate or Create, and many are built on a news line or a real case. In the specimen, a question on app-based cabs asks you to name the market form and then, as the owner, suggest a fix for a price ceiling with a diagram.
The format is 16 one-mark, eight 4-mark and four 8-mark questions, with case-based and application questions throughout.
Which topics carry numericals in ISC Economics?
Three areas. National income by the expenditure, income and value-added methods. The investment multiplier with MPC and MPS. Elasticity of demand, where the syllabus allows numericals on the percentage method only.
A quick example of the percentage method: price falls from ₹20 to ₹16, a 20% fall, and quantity demanded rises from 100 to 130 units, a 30% rise. Elasticity is 30 divided by 20, so 1.5, and demand is elastic. In checked copies, the mistake I see most is the formula written upside down, price change over quantity change, which gives 0.67 and the wrong conclusion.
For the multiplier: if MPC is 0.8, k is 1 divided by 0.2, so 5, and an extra ₹200 crore of investment raises income by ₹1,000 crore. Write the formula, the substitution and the answer with units on separate lines. Each line can carry a step mark.
Numericals sit in national income, the multiplier and the percentage method of elasticity; show every step.
How is the ISC Economics project marked?
You complete two projects from any topic in the theory syllabus, each worth 10 marks, marked as format 1, content 4, findings 2 and a viva on the project 3. The teacher and the visiting examiner each mark the first 7 and the two are averaged; only the visiting examiner holds the viva. Suggested topics include a socio-economic survey of at least 30 households and a ten-year comparison of the Union Budget's spending on agriculture, defence, industry and education.
Two projects of 10 marks each, and 3 of the 10 come from a viva you cannot fake.
How to plan ISC Economics revision by weightage
- Start with demand, elasticity and supply. Draw every diagram the syllabus names until you can do it without looking.
- Do national income next: one numerical by each method every second day, and the list of precautions for each method.
- Revise market forms and the equilibrium of a firm with the shutdown and break-even diagrams.
- Cover money and banking and the multiplier together, since both turn on credit and spending.
- Write two full 80-mark papers in three hours before the pre-boards, then compare with the solved papers in our ISC Class 12 Economics past papers post.
The full topic list for each unit is in our ISC Class 12 Economics syllabus post.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1.What is the unit-wise weightage of ISC Class 12 Economics 2027?
Micro 40: demand, elasticity and supply 16; market mechanism, production, and cost and revenue 12; market forms 12. Macro 40: income and employment 8, money and banking 8, balance of payments 6, public finance 6, national income 12. These figures are from CISCE's 2027 syllabus.
Q2.Is the ISC Economics paper 80 marks or 100?
The theory paper is 80 marks in three hours, and project work adds 20, for a subject total of 100. A student scoring 62 in theory and 17 in the project has 79 in Economics.
Q3.How many questions are in the ISC Economics specimen paper 2027?
Thirteen questions, all compulsory: Question 1 with sixteen one-mark subparts, eight 4-mark questions in Section B and four 8-mark questions in Section C. Internal choices are given in three Section B questions and two Section C questions.
Q4.Which chapter has the highest weightage in ISC Economics?
National income, at 12 marks, is the largest single unit. The demand, elasticity and supply block is bigger at 16, but it covers three topics. A student who skips the national income numericals gives up most of a 12-mark unit.
Q5.Are numericals asked in ISC Economics?
Yes, in national income, the investment multiplier and price elasticity of demand by the percentage method. The specimen paper has a national income question by the expenditure method and a one-mark MPS question built on the multiplier.
Q6.What is the passing mark in ISC Economics?
35 out of 100, with theory and project counted together. A student with 22 in the theory paper and 15 in the project has 37 and passes; the project marks matter for students close to the line.
