The CA Inter January 2027 exam date is fixed: Group I on 2, 4 and 6 January 2027 and Group II on 8, 10 and 12 January 2027. ICAI announced the schedule on 23 September 2026 in announcement No. 13-CA (EXAM)/JANUARY/2027. Every paper runs from 2 PM to 5 PM IST, and the exam form opens on the Self Service Portal on 3 November 2026.
Six papers in eleven days, one every alternate day, and the dates will not move even if one of them becomes a public holiday.
TL;DR
- Group I: 2, 4 and 6 January 2027. Group II: 8, 10 and 12 January 2027.
- Timing: 2 PM to 5 PM IST, three hours, with 15 minutes of reading time from 1.45 PM.
- Exam form: 3 to 16 November 2026 without late fee, 19 November with a late fee of ₹600.
- Fee: ₹1,500 for one group, ₹2,700 for both groups at Indian centres.
- The notice covers Foundation and Intermediate only. Final has its own May and November cycle.
When is the CA Inter January 2027 exam?
ICAI's notice gives the dates group by group, not paper by paper.
- Group I: Saturday 2 January, Monday 4 January and Wednesday 6 January 2027.
- Group II: Friday 8 January, Sunday 10 January and Tuesday 12 January 2027.
The notice adds a line I would take seriously: there will be no change in the schedule if any of these days is later declared a public holiday by the Central Government, a State Government or a local body. Sunday 10 January is already an exam day. Plan on the dates as printed.
Exams are held in the cities listed in the notice, provided enough candidates choose each city. Maharashtra alone has 37 cities on the list, from Mumbai and Pune to Nandurbar and Gondia. Overseas, the papers are held in Dubai, Bahrain and Kathmandu, starting at 12.30 PM, 11.30 AM and 2.15 PM local time so that everyone writes at 2 PM IST.
Group I is written on 2, 4 and 6 January and Group II on 8, 10 and 12 January, with a public holiday making no difference to the dates.
What is the paper timing and reading time?
All six Intermediate papers are three hours long, from 2 PM to 5 PM IST. Before that, ICAI gives 15 minutes of advance reading time from 1.45 PM to 2 PM. Since May 2026 you receive one combined question booklet, MCQs and descriptive questions together, in that reading window.
Use the 15 minutes for the descriptive part, not the MCQs. Read all the case scenarios once, mark the question you will attempt first, and note which questions have working you can start without a calculator. The MCQs can wait, because they have no negative marking at Inter and are answered quickly once the descriptive answers are in hand.
Every paper is 2 PM to 5 PM, and the quarter hour before 2 PM is for reading the descriptive questions.
When does the exam form open for January 2027?
The form is online only, at eservices.icai.org, the Self Service Portal. Log in with your SRN as the username. These are the dates in the notice.
Form window
- Opens: Tuesday 3 November 2026.
- Last date without late fee: Monday 16 November 2026.
- Last date with late fee of ₹600 (US$10 for overseas centres): Thursday 19 November 2026.
- Correction window for exam city or medium: 20 to 22 November 2026.
Exam fee
- Indian centres: ₹1,500 for a single group, ₹2,700 for both groups.
- Overseas centres other than Kathmandu: US$325 for a single group, US$500 for both.
- Kathmandu: ₹2,200 for a single group, ₹3,400 for both.
You can pay by card, net banking or UPI. Candidates can choose English or Hindi as the medium for answering. The medium is fixed through the form, and the 20 to 22 November correction window is the only chance to change it.
The notice does not give an admit card date. ICAI usually puts admit cards on the portal around two weeks before the first paper, so watch the portal in the second half of December.
Fill the form between 3 and 16 November, and treat 19 November as the absolute last day.
Which paper falls on which day?
The ICAI notice lists dates per group and does not print paper names against dates. Under the new scheme the papers are numbered 1 to 6, and ICAI holds them in that order, so the working timetable looks like this. Confirm it against your admit card when it arrives.
- 2 January: Paper 1, Advanced Accounting.
- 4 January: Paper 2, Corporate and Other Laws.
- 6 January: Paper 3, Taxation (Income-tax Law and Goods and Services Tax).
- 8 January: Paper 4, Cost and Management Accounting.
- 10 January: Paper 5, Auditing and Ethics.
- 12 January: Paper 6, Financial Management and Strategic Management.
Every paper has one free day before it. For a both-groups candidate that is six papers in eleven days with no longer break anywhere, so the free day is for a final read of notes and nothing else. The pair I would rehearse together is Taxation on 6 January followed by Cost and Management Accounting on 8 January. Both are computation-heavy, and in checked copies the second heavy paper is where working notes start getting skipped.
Papers run 1 to 6 in order, with a single free day between each, if ICAI follows its usual sequence.
How should you use the eleven weeks before 2 January?
- Finish the first reading of every paper by 7 November. From then on, no new chapters, only questions.
- Write one full paper per subject from the latest Mock Test Papers in the real slot, 2 PM to 5 PM, by hand. Solve the January 2027 Revision Test Paper for the amendments that apply to this attempt. The official papers and suggested answers are linked in our CA Inter suggested answers post.
- Between 1 and 20 December, write a second full paper in every subject, including two on consecutive days, so that the alternate-day rhythm is familiar before January.
- Keep 21 December onwards for revision of your own notes and your checked papers. Download the admit card the day it appears and check the centre address.
- Remember the pass rule when deciding on one group or both: 40% in each paper and 50% in aggregate for the group. Our CA Intermediate passing marks post explains how exemptions carry across attempts.
The mistake I see most in checked Inter copies is not a knowledge gap. It is a student who knew the provision, wrote the answer in the wrong order and lost the step marks. Gradehunt's CA Inter test series gives you full papers on the ICAI pattern, written by hand and checked by ex-examiners within 48 hours, with step-wise marks and comments. The first paper is checked free, and mentorship plans are available for anyone who wants the eleven weeks planned paper by paper.
