CA Final Paper 3, Advanced Auditing, Assurance and Professional Ethics, on 6 November 2026 was a moderate paper that leaned on ethics and on study-material lists. Part I had 23 MCQs instead of May's 15, and ethics carried 29 of the 114 printed marks, against 22 in May 2026. Only 26 of the 84 printed Part II marks asked you to apply the facts and conclude. In May it was 52.
Little was unfamiliar, but the paper paid for exact recall more than for judgment, and one 10-mark case asked about nothing but a firm's branch and temporary offices under section 27.
TL;DR
- Moderate and list-heavy. 23 MCQs (16 of 1 mark, 7 of 2), and 35 of 84 printed Part II marks are answered as lists.
- Ethics leads with 29 marks, up from 22. Reporting has 12, audit planning 11. Prospective financial information and internal audit have none.
- Standards on Auditing carry 44 marks. ICAI's suggested answers are not yet published.
Was CA Final Audit November 2026 tough or easy?
My verdict rests on the paper itself.
- Difficulty: moderate. SA 505, SA 720, SA 600, CARO, NOCLAR and contingent fees are all study material topics. The doubt sits in a few MCQs that depend on an RBI, SEBI or Council rule the paper does not print.
- Length: manageable. No Part II sub-question goes above 5 marks, and only MCQ 23 needs a money calculation; MCQs 16 and 17 need a day count from the quarter end.
- Spread: uneven. Seventeen of 19 chapters carry marks, but ethics alone has 29, a quarter of the paper.
If you had revised ethics and the SA lists closely, the paper was fair. If you planned to reason your way through the facts, Part II gave you fewer chances than May did.
How did I count the marks?
I read the November 2026 paper from a student-shared scanned copy (booklet KRS) and counted it twice, independently; the two counts agreed on the paper's structure, every printed mark and the 114 total. The May 2026 figures come from ICAI's official suggested answers. Each question goes to its main chapter in ICAI's 19-chapter study material. Part II counts as printed, six questions of 14 marks, so with Part I's 30 each paper prints 114 marks. The Q6(c) choice counts once.
The counts split on one chapter call. MCQ 21, one officer keeping the sales ledger and handling cash receipts, sits in an internal audit setting but tests only segregation of duties, so I placed it under internal control. They also differed on several application-versus-list calls, which I settled after re-reading; that sorting is my own judgment.
Which chapters carried the most marks in CA Final Audit Nov 2026?
Printed marks for November 2026, with May 2026 in brackets:
- Professional ethics and liabilities of auditors: 29, 10 MCQ + 19 descriptive (22).
- Reporting: 12, 2 MCQ + 10 descriptive (12).
- Audit planning, strategy and execution: 11, 1 MCQ + 10 descriptive (4).
- Digital auditing and assurance: 7, 2 MCQ + 5 descriptive (6).
- Audit of banks and NBFCs: 7, 2 MCQ + 5 descriptive (7).
- General auditing principles and auditor's responsibilities: 6, 2 MCQ + 4 descriptive (9).
- Materiality, risk assessment and internal control: 6, 1 MCQ + 5 descriptive (0).
- Due diligence, investigation and forensic accounting: 6, 1 MCQ + 5 descriptive (7).
- Quality control: 5, all descriptive (2).
- Audit evidence: 5, all MCQ (10).
- Specialised areas, related services, public sector audit and SDG/ESG assurance: 4 each (0, 4, 2, 6).
- Review of financial information 2 (5), completion and review 1 (6), group audits 1 (2).
Prospective financial information and internal audit had 5 marks each in May and none now.
What grew, what shrank and what was new?
Part I changed shape. May had 15 MCQs of 2 marks. November has 23, 7 of 2 marks and 16 of 1, in cases of six, five and six questions plus six standalone. Case and standalone marks stay at 24 and 6. FR on 2 November and AFM on 4 November used the same 16 plus 7 layout, so Audit is the third paper in a row with it.
Ethics MCQ marks went from 4 to 10, because all of Case II is on ethics. Depending on your choice of questions, you answered 20 to 29 ethics marks, against 13 to 22 in May. At 25.4% of printed marks, ethics is above its 17-24% band in ICAI's Saransh booklet, and miscellaneous audits, at 15.8%, fall below theirs. Digital auditing, at 6.1%, is also just above its 3-6% band. In May every section sat inside its band.
Audit planning rose from 4 to 11 through SA 600 in 4(a) and SA 610 direct assistance in 5(a). Internal control went from nothing to 6, with SA 315 and SA 330 on an automated ERP in 1(b). Audit evidence fell from 10 to 5.
The bigger change is in Part II. By my reading, 26 printed marks ask you to apply the facts, 35 are answered as a list from the study material and 23 mix both, against 52, 23 and 9 in May. A November candidate answered 16 to 26 application marks; in May it was 34 to 48.
Two frames came back. The BRSR question in 6(c), on the most relevant principle and its core elements, repeats May's 4(c) almost word for word. MCQ 22 mirrors May's 3(c) on SA 570: then the material uncertainty was adequately disclosed, now it is not.
Which questions were tricky or new?
In Part I
- Case II gives all 10 marks to section 27 of the Chartered Accountants Act. A Dehradun firm opens branches 55 km and 239 km away, puts a partner attending 165 days a year in charge of one and a part-time paid assistant in charge of the other, and plans a four-month temporary office in Chandigarh. The attendance requirement for the member in charge comes from a Council decision the paper does not print; the 50 km limit appears only inside option D of MCQ 7.
- MCQ 2 asks for named CAAT tools: Power BI, ACL, Alteryx, CaseWare. MCQs 4 to 6 are three SA 505 confirmation items.
- MCQs 16 and 17 test the SEBI rule for a listed entity's auditor who resigns with limited reviews pending. The answer turns on the 45-day rule and on which quarter the paper means.
- MCQ 23 sells two NPAs to an ARC at a shortfall of Rs 15 crore against net book value and an excess of Rs 10 crore; the 2021 RBI Master Direction fits no option exactly. For MCQ 18, on NBFC cash shortages of Rs 12,500 and Rs 6,000, my key rests on RBI thresholds that may predate the 2024 fraud directions.
In Part II
- 3(a) is NOCLAR with an imminent breach: a listed company plans to discharge untreated chemical waste into a river, and the managing director threatens to remove the auditor.
- 3(b) asks about NFTs for an art auction company, and 5(c) for CAG audit criteria at a state power distributor. May tested social engineering and a performance audit instead. 4(b) is the contingent-fee pair: 8% of debts recovered and 5% of tax saved.
- Four items read loosely. 4(c) wants an audited cash flow statement projecting 24 months, which is prospective information, not an SA 800 audit. 2(c) asks for SAs in a compilation, which SRS 4410 governs. 4(a) uses the year ended 31 March 2025. In 2(b), CARO clause 3(vii)(b) applies, but 3(viii) is debatable because the company never surrendered the income.
Answer from the standard that actually governs and state your assumption. Without ICAI's answers, every MCQ key here, and every legal reference the paper does not print, is my reading.

Paper 4, Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation, is on 9 November. If it follows the first three papers, its 30 MCQ marks are worth about 54 minutes of 180.
