How the CS Professional result works
You clear a group with at least 40 marks in each paper and 50% of the group's total: 200 out of 400 in Group 1 (four papers) and 150 out of 300 in Group 2 (three papers). Writing both groups together, 40 or more in all seven papers and 350 out of 700 clears both.
If you fail a group after writing all its papers, there are two routes to an exemption. Condition I: a paper with 60 or more is exempt when you scored at least 25 in each of the group's other papers; next time you write the rest, needing 40 in each and 50% of their own total, as the exempt marks don't count. Condition II: when only one paper is under 40 and the others together score 60% or more, all the others are exempt and you rewrite just that paper, needing 50.
ICSI's regulation does not fix a number of attempts for this exemption; check your result statement. Writing an exempt paper again cancels the exemption, and under Condition II that cancels all of them. A pass with distinction needs 60 or more in every paper and 70% overall at one sitting, with no exemption.
Example: Group 2 at 65, 30 and 45. Paper 6 is under 40, and Papers 5 and 7 total 110, under 60% of 200, so Condition II does not apply. Under Condition I, Paper 5 (65) is exempt because the other papers are 25 or more; next time Papers 6 and 7 need 40 or more each and 100 together.
