How the CMA Inter result works
You clear a group with at least 40 marks in each of its four papers and 200 out of 400 in the group. Writing Group I and Group II together, 40 or more in all eight papers and 400 out of 800 clears both.
If you fail a group after writing all its papers, any paper with 60 or more is exempt for the next three terms (the exams are held in June and December). Next time you write the group's other papers: 40 or more in each and 50% of their own total. When every other paper of that group was 40 or more too, the 60+ marks are carried forward (actual marks); if they count in the total you may need less, so check with ICMAI. Writing an exempt paper again cancels the benefit.
There is no pass with distinction. Clearing both groups at one sitting, with no exemption, makes you eligible for a Certificate of Merit.
Example: Group I at 65, 45, 42 and 40. Every paper is 40 or more, but the total is 192, 8 short of 200, so the group is not cleared. Paper 5 is exempt and its 65 is carried forward; next time Papers 6, 7 and 8 need 40 or more each and 150 together.
