For CMA Inter and Final exam week in December 2026, the best tips are paper-wise: write law answers as provision, facts and conclusion, and number every working note in the accounting papers. In tax papers, state the basis before the first figure, and in finance numericals use three-decimal factors. The exams run from 10 to 17 December, Final from 10 am to 1 pm and Inter from 2 pm to 5 pm, with each group on alternate days. This post covers the week itself: the days between papers and how to write each kind of paper.
In exam week you are no longer learning. You are protecting marks you already have, and most of them are lost to format and time, not to forgotten chapters.
TL;DR
- 10 to 17 December 2026. One group means a free day before every paper. Both groups means eight papers on eight days.
- Law papers: provision, facts, conclusion, in that order.
- Accounting papers: working notes numbered and linked to the main answer.
- Tax papers: Finance Act, 2025 and GST amendments up to 31 May 2026.
- Finance papers: three-decimal discount factors and a clear accept or reject line.
How does the December 2026 exam week run?
ICMAI's time table puts Group I and Group III papers on 10, 12, 14 and 16 December, and Group II and Group IV papers on 11, 13, 15 and 17 December. A one-group student always has a day off before the next paper. A both-groups student writes every day for eight days, and should sleep at the same time each night from 3 December so the body is used to it.
One group gives you a revision day between papers; both groups gives you none, so the evening is the only revision slot.
What should you do on the day between two papers?
- Go through your own summary notes and formats for the next paper, not the full study material.
- Write one full question in each format you are unsure of, by hand.
- Read the amendments list once if the next paper is tax or law.
- Stop by 9 pm and pack the admit card, ID and calculator.
A gap day is for formats and amendments. A new chapter on that day usually costs sleep and gives nothing back.
How should you write the law papers?
Inter Paper 5 and Final Paper 13 are mostly case questions. Name the section and state the rule in two or three lines, apply it to the facts in the question, and finish with a one-line conclusion. If you are not sure of a section number, describe the rule correctly and leave the number out. A wrong number weakens an answer whose reasoning was right.
Rule, facts, conclusion, with section numbers only where you are sure.
How do you present the accounting and reporting papers?
In Inter Papers 6 and 10 and Final Paper 18, the marks sit in the working notes. A one-line example from consolidation: a parent pays Rs 9,00,000 for 80% of a company with net identifiable assets of Rs 10,00,000. With non-controlling interest at its share of net assets, Rs 2,00,000, goodwill is Rs 9,00,000 plus Rs 2,00,000 less Rs 10,00,000, which is Rs 1,00,000. Show that as a working note, then carry the figure to the balance sheet with a reference such as 'WN 2'.
A goodwill figure with no working cannot earn part marks if it is wrong. With the working shown, a slip in one figure still leaves the method marks.
What do the tax papers need?
ICMAI's circular of 15 September 2026 says the Finance Act, 2025, with amendments up to 31 May 2026, applies to Inter Paper 7 and Final Papers 15 and 19. GST amendments to the same date apply to Papers 7 and 19. Use those rates and nothing later.
In every computation, write the assessment year, the regime and the residential status before the first figure. In GST answers, state whether the supply is intra-state or inter-state before you compute the tax.
Tax papers follow the law as amended up to 31 May 2026, and the first lines of each answer should set the basis.
How should you handle the costing and management papers?
Inter Papers 8 and 12 and Final Papers 16 and 17 test format as much as figures. In a cost sheet, put WIP at works cost and finished goods at cost of goods sold. In a variance question, label each variance favourable or adverse and reconcile the total. In Cost and Management Audit, quote the rule or form you rely on in plain words. Our post on Cost Accounting answer presentation has a full worked cost sheet.
A cost sheet in the right order and variances that are labelled and reconciled: that is where the marks are.
What about the finance papers?
In Inter Paper 11 and Final Paper 14, use the factor the question gives, or three decimals. A project costs Rs 10,00,000 and returns Rs 4,00,000 a year for three years at 10%. The annuity factor is 2.487, so the present value is Rs 9,94,800 and the NPV is minus Rs 5,200: reject. A student who rounds the factor to 2.5 gets an NPV of nil and cannot give a clear decision. End every capital budgeting answer with one line: accept or reject, and why.
Three-decimal factors and a stated decision turn a correct calculation into full marks.
Remember the group rule: 40 in each paper and 50% of the group total. A weak paper cannot be carried by the others, so do not skip one to revise another. Our post on CMA Inter passing marks explains it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1.When are the CMA Inter and Final exams in December 2026?
From 10 to 17 December 2026. Final papers run from 10 am to 1 pm and Inter papers from 2 pm to 5 pm. Each group writes on alternate days, so one group gets a free day before every paper.
Q2.What should I study on the day before a CMA paper?
Your own short notes, formats and the amendments list for that paper. Write one question in any format you are unsure of. A student who opens a fresh chapter the day before usually loses sleep and gains little.
Q3.Which Finance Act applies to CMA December 2026 tax papers?
The Finance Act, 2025, with amendments up to 31 May 2026, as per ICMAI's circular of 15 September 2026. GST amendments to the same date apply to Inter Paper 7 and Final Paper 19.
Q4.How many papers do I write if I take both groups?
Eight papers on eight straight days, from 10 to 17 December. Inter students write in the afternoon and Final students in the morning. Keep each evening for the next paper's formats only.
Q5.Should I write section numbers in CMA law answers?
Yes, when you are sure. Quote the section, apply it and conclude. If you are unsure, state the rule clearly without a number, because a wrong section spoils a well-reasoned answer.
Q6.How do I avoid running out of time in CMA papers?
Give each question minutes in line with its marks: about 1.8 minutes a mark in a three-hour, 100-mark paper. Move on when the time is up and come back if time is left at the end.
