CBSE Class 12 Accountancy Syllabus 2025–26: Units & Structure

The syllabus balances theoretical understanding with practical application, making it highly relevant for students aiming for commerce-related careers or higher studies in finance, business, or management. . The syllabus is divided into 11 Units:

Definition and characteristics of partnership, partnership deed, fixed capital account and fluctuating capital account, goodwill – definition, reasons affecting goodwill, methods of valuation (average profit, super profit, capitalization).

Partnership – Change in Profit Sharing Ratio

Accounting for changes in profit sharing ratio among partners, accounting treatment of goodwill in case of change, adjusting reserves, revaluation of assets and liabilities, preparation of balance sheet after change.

4.

Admission of a Partner

Effect of admission on change in profit sharing ratio, treatment of goodwill, revaluation of assets and liabilities, treatment of profits and reserves, capital adjustment, preparation of balance sheet.

5.

Retirement/Death of a Partner

Revaluation of goodwill, assets and liabilities, adjustment of profit accumulated, treatment of partner's loan, preparation of balance sheet on retirement/death, calculation of share of deceased partner.

Dissolution of Partnership Firm

Meaning, types of dissolution, settlement of accounts, preparation of realization account, treatment of assets and liabilities, distribution of cash, insolvency of partners, Garner vs. Murray rule.

7.

Company Accounts – Issue of Shares

Share types, share capital, issue of shares at par, premium and discount, calls in arrears and calls in advance, forfeiture and reissue of shares, accounting entries in respect of share capital.

8.

Company Accounts – Issue of Debentures

Definition and types of debentures, accounting for issue of debentures, redemption of debentures (by lump sum and instalments), writing off discount or premium on redemption.

9.

Company's Financial Statements

Preparation of balance sheet according to Schedule III, remuneration of managers, provisions and contingencies, preparation of profit and loss account.

10.

Financial Statement Analysis

Purpose and significance, financial analysis tools – comparative statements, common size statements, ratio analysis (liquidity ratios, solvency ratios, profitability ratios).

11.

Cash Flow Statement

Purpose and significance, preparation of cash flow statement according to Accounting Standard-3, classification of activities as operating, investing and financing activities, direct and indirect methods of preparation.
